Name: Acarbose (Precose)
Class: Anti-Diabetes Agent (Oral Hypoglycemic)
Mechanism: Inhibits a-glucosidase ® ¯ conversion of carbohydrates to glucose in the small intestine ® ¯ absorption of glucose ® ¯ post-prandial glucose rise. Does not stimulate insulin release or action. \ No hypoglycemia.
Absorption: Oral ® poor absorption.
